In fact, about 13 percent of the bachelor's degrees we award go to Hispanic engineers — that's nearly twice the national average. The National Society of Black Engineers named our student NSBE chapter its Distinguished Chapter of the Year in 2007. About 15 years ago we created a program to recruit and retain underrepresented students in engineering. Today, at least 60 percent of students in the STEPUP program graduate with engineering degrees.
